Due to the incredibly lengthy nature of Detective Conan, histories aren't very well documented for characters such as Mitsuhiko. For that reason, this log here has been compiled of recent relevant information on the matter. Keep in mind that this may mean that points otherwise considered 'filler' won't be included--as, even if they refer to the main plot, they do not concern Mitsuhiko himself.

With that in mind, a note at the top will act as reference for how far in the series the history post reaches.

LATEST CHAPTER: 908

Serial nature that Detective Conan has, most of Mitsuhiko's 'revealed' background doesn't actually add up to much, but that's certainly not to say it isn't there. Rather, what's important to Mitsuhiko's story just happens to only take a minor position in Conan's--the protagonists'--tale. Likewise, much of what happens throughout the series doesn't directly concern Mitsuhiko himself, and thus isn't mentioned below. Given that the series is now over 900 chapters long, this is probably for the best! On another note, being that the series is so long despite claiming to still be occurring within a year, time is quite fluid... Case in point, Mitsuhiko has 'apparently' had at least three separate instances of starting the summer vacation (despite... Only apparently experiencing one). Back on track now...

Before meeting Conan, he's a student at Teitan Elementary, and appears to keep relatively to himself, reading at the side. He has an elder sister named Asami (about 8-10 years senior), and his parents are both school teachers, which likely contributed to these habits. After making a skeptical comment concerning supernatural hauntings in regard to his classmates'--Ayumi, Genta, and Conan--conversation about a 'haunted mansion' however, he was dragged along to explore the place, an event that would lead him to become friends with the others. (The mansion, of course, wasn't haunted--the tale was in fact a cover for an old homicide case.) One could say this was the moment that the 'Detective Boys' (Shonen Tantei-Dan) were formed... However technically, this would come later.

Out of the many (MANY) cases that the 'Shonen Tantei' have been involved in, there are a small few of considerable note. The long unsolved mystery of the 'haunted mansion' is of course one, having led Mitsuhiko to properly become friends with his classmates to begin with. Not long after this case, a mix-up of bags while attending a 'Kamen Yaiba' event at Touto Tower would lead to a 'treasure hunt'--a coded map which turned out to legitimately be connected to the location of stolen gold coins. The owner of the note--a group of Italian thieves--thus used the children to find the gold, following from a distance and tying them up once they came to the end. Even so, with the help of Conan, Mitsuhiko and the others would manage to escape by dropping the bags of gold on top of the thieves, running to the nearest police station to report them. This case in particular can be seen as the 'origin' of the Shonen Tantei Dan, moving from a group of friends into a semi-official club within the school.

Following that 'case', he and the others would also begin to meet the other characters. Aside from meeting 'Ran-neesan' (whom Conan lived with), they would also meet Agasa, a professor and inventor. Agasa would not only invent and gift to them the 'Detective Boy's badges' (which included a tracer signal to Conan's glasses, and a radio connection between each of them), but also a wrist-watch with a built in flashlight. These devices would help on future cases multiple times, whether to track others down, or simply to relay messages to the others, easily becoming the tools that saved his life and the others. With each case that was solved, a heavier interest in 'Detective work' would build, and with it, a growing experience in what it took to solve cases in the way Conan did.

It would be again relatively early in their 'casework' that the fifth addition to their class came along, soon after their class teacher was replaced by a young 'Kobayashi-sensei'. Joining the class would be 'Haibara Ai', a half foreign girl who as it turned out was staying with Agasa. Though cool and mature in attitude, Mitsuhiko would quickly develop a crush on her--though it is only very recently that she has been particularly friendly with him, and only somewhat less recently that she even started to use his crush to her advantage in asking for requests and assistance during Conan's cases.

Focusing on the proper timeline, Mitsuhiko's intelligence and growing experience would come in very handy when a camping trip with Agasa went awry. After finding a Limestone Cave, Ayumi would convince him and the others to explore inside (Agasa and Ai would be back at the tent). Genta, who ran ahead, would then catch sight of three murderers disposing of a body, and in order to help the others escape, Conan would be shot. Despite his wound, he would guide the group from Genta's back, giving tips and ideas on how to stay ahead of their pursuers. When Conan lost consciousness before giving the answer to the riddle of the cave however, it would be Mitsuhiko who solved it--after conversing with the others through theory after theory, and drawing a diagram of the cave in his notebook, he would realize that the riddle referred to the Shoji game. Through this, they would escape to the entrance, which was surrounded by police and medical personnel, allowing Conan to be saved, and the criminals to be captured.

Mitsuhiko would go on many camping trips with his friends, following this--on one, he would admit to finding Conan's knowledge amazing, and soon after find himself and Haibara on the run from a hunter for fear of their lives. In the end, it would turn out that what they thought was a hunt due to seeing a body, was otherwise however; the man had killed a hunter who had been preparing to shoot a bear, and to scare the children away from the creature for the sake of their lives, fired another shot. The man of course would be arrested, but regardless, Mitsuhiko and Haibara escaped safely.

Murders would not be the only events that Mitsuhiko and the others helped with however--in particular, they would manage to thwart the kidnapping of an American named 'James Black', whose only clue back to them had been 'P & A' (decoded as 'Panda', referring to the colouration of police cars.). Many other victims still would be found before it was too late, saved from either circumstance or tragic misunderstanding. Regardless of the case, they would often encounter the police officers of the region, and as time passed, Mitsuhiko would thus come to know them rather well. It comes to the point where he and his friends even attempt to play match-maker between two of the officers, who appear to be 'fated' to be together!

It would be foolish to assume, however, that all his 'history' is mystery cases and murder now--during the early summer, after overhearing Ayumi and Haibara talk about how they want to see a firefly, he puts all his efforts into finding where fireflies live, and catching one in secret. The effort results in him becoming stuck--he cannot open his palms to call the others, or he releases the firefly, and he cannot put it in the habitat he created for the same reason. After an escaped convict crosses paths with him, the incident ends with him opening his hands accidentally... But in front of the girls nonetheless, who are able to watch the firefly fly away while the authorities apprehend Mitsuhiko's captor.

Further after this, and other fishing trips and stargazing nights, would be an encounter with none other than the Phantom Thief, 'KID'--the master of disguise would follow them through an abandoned trick-house, making moves to spare their lives before later taking off before their very eyes... ...Though of course later, after a challenge reply from the thief to his challenger remarks that the 'time for child's play is over', he would have his chance to meet the thief again. The Shonen Tantei would be called to help guard the 'Kirin's Horn', as supposedly, Kaitou KID would be unable to disguise himself as either of them. Needless to say, the thief would prove the claim wrong, and even use the children as his unwitting accomplices in the theft, but it was certainly an interesting experience for him.

That particular heist would not occur until later on however. Before this, there would be shellfish digging, movies, 'haunted houses'... Many other harmless events which resulted in some sort of murder or kidnapping, including even an interview prepared for the group by their school teacher. With their interviewer killed, the event was of course cancelled--however, as a result, Kobayashi-sensei would declare herself their 'manager' (not that it seems to do much outside leading her to meet with one of the police officers.). This could perhaps be why the teacher arranged a game between the class in the manner that she did. In order to come to better know two of the later additions to the class, a 'quiz' would be set up, one which Mitsuhiko himself played an impressive role in solving. Despite fumbling somewhat, he would come to decipher the majority of the riddle with the help of his friends, thus successfully completing Kobayashi's 'game'.

Yet another meeting resulting from a case would be 'Okiya Subaru', encountered when the apartment building that a classmate had invited them to for a mystery burned to the ground. As it happened, the classmate had been noting one of the tenants acting suspiciously--and that very tenant turned out to be the arsonist, soon arrested for his acts. Okiya in the meantime, would come to live next door to the Professor, thus coming to see and know Mitsuhiko and the kids a little better with time himself.

Relations with other characters aside, the occurrence of murders around the Shonen Tantei would eventually reach a 'suspicious' point, or at least the point where investigating officers commented on the common happenings. The more that cases occurred, the more he and the others tried to do themselves, albeit with advice from others, and in recent cases in particular, Mitsuhiko has found himself being of more and more use to Conan and Haibara's 'work' (when he's there). His researching 'emergency codes' would allow Conan to relay messages to Mitsuhiko and the others during a kidnapping situation in particular, but, just as his proactiveness helps things, it also hinders...

In the most recent chapters, his actions nearly result (not that he realizes) in Haibara's death, when he sends video footage of her adult form to Kogoro in hopes of identifying the 'woman who saved everyone' from a fire he and the other kids were trapped in. This video would lead those searching for Haibara to the Mystery Train which he and the others boarded, and thus, to a great battle of wits between 'black' and 'white'...not that he was aware of this, of course. To Mitsuhiko, they simply never found out who the lady was, and after an unexpected murder case which was followed by a 'fire', he and the others would leave the train with a somewhat tired Haibara in tow.

The mystery train case is not the end however. While it is the most major event according to the series main plot, to Mitsuhiko, it is merely 'another case'. Following this case would be an incident which resulted in himself and his friends being trapped in a refrigerated truck. After suffering from hypothermia due to a lack of coat (given to Haibara, whose sweater had been ruined earlier), he and Haibara wind up sharing the coat (much to his flustered alarm), before events lead into their escape. Further murder cases occur from here, including a false suicide, and a murder during a hanami (flower viewing) trip as well--

Following the incident of the truck, came a case concerning the very calico cat which they encountered. After successfully identifying 'Taii-kun's' true owner from a crowd of three, Mitsuhiko and the children are invited to visit the cat one last time before it's given to another person. Instead they find Taii's owner unconscious--beaten over the head, and made to appear as an accidental event. What was nearly murder would become otherwise, however. Taii's ownership would bounce about slightly, and in the end, return back to the very place where they first met the cat! ...At the cafe under Conan's apartment home.

There are three cases beyond this that Mitsuhiko has played significant role in after. First, as the spring season returned, he and the others would participate in a small kite flying competition--demonstrating his skill in craftmanship alongside his classmates to create a kite that resembles the same badges used for their investigations. Rather unfortunately, the kite would break when one of the tails came off--a fact that Mitsuhiko would uneasily attribute to 'punishment [for Conan putting a bug on their friend to find out what her favorite song was]'. Much like the case of Taii-kun's owner, the victim in this incident would thankfully survive the matter. Demonstrating the trick of the crime using wire-bottle telephones, after first showing some acting skill to help fool the culprit into revealing himself, the culprit would be discovered... ...though he never did find out Haibara's favorite song.

Following this, he and his friends would unwittingly become involved in a kidnapping case; one of the police officers, 'Yumi', would be held hostage by a bitter, former opponent to the woman's boyfriend. With a time limit of three hours (the amount of time the man had to return to his Shoji game for an incredible battle for his 7th of 7 titles, a feat achieved only by 2 others in history), they would contribute considerably to her recovery--not only because of their observations and findings of the pieces to the clues needed, but their knowledge of Japanese history as well. Mitsuhiko in particular, moved and entranced by the romantic story retold by the man, would end up doing his best to contribute to the solution (even if his shoji knowledge hit a dead end initially.). The man and Yumi would be reunited, the game won, and Mitsuhiko in the meantime would leave the case with a bit of knowledge on the seven deadly sins.

The last case he has taken part in, however, returns to the unfortunate mood of most others he's witnessed. The summer season arrived, and when deciding to have some lemonade after a day at the park, the kids would come across a boy their age, in tears. He had been told to observe the apartment of a friend from afar, as the woman claimed she was worried someone would kill her.

He was right, but also wrong. As it seemed in the end, she committed suicide--using a convoluted scheme that would not only bring three members of a former thieving group she'd been part of, into questioning the woman would not only successfully have them arrested for the theft in death, but also the murder of the parents to the very child she had come to know afterward out of guilt. Because of the fact that she had deliberately made the child a 'witness' to her death, she similarly guaranteed he would be placed under police protection--a truly heartbreaking sacrifice.

It is worth noting however, what occurs at the beginning of this case. While the expressions of Ayumi and Genta, Mitsuhiko's friends are seen, with one quite shaken and the other disturbed, Mitsuhiko's is not. In fact, his first visible expression upon finding the body is one of determination, perhaps implying that he is more desensitized to the sight of death than even his two classmates. (Though in the end of course, all three were laughing and chatting away as they conducted an experiment to reveal the solution to the mystery)

As of this point in the series, time has passed again through to the winter. Since Mitsuhiko has not been seen during this time, his canon point however is listed at this case. That said, as more comes, additions will be made below--only, of course, for completed mysteries.
